Valentine’s Day Makeup Looks
By Lianne Farbes • January 30th, 2008Wondering how you should do your makeup for Valentine’s Day? Whether you are in a relationship, looking for that special someone or just playing the field, I have a makeup look custom-tailored just for you.
The main thing to remember when creating your look is to be yourself. If you have never rocked a smoky eye in your life and would feel silly doing so, I would advise against it. Instead, just punch up your regular routine.
For example, false eyelashes are always a fun way to add drama to your look and, contrary to popular belief, they are not that difficult to use. It just takes a little practice. If you are freaking out about it, get thee to the MAC counter or a Sephora and have them apply the falsies for you.
All this being said, I have some looks that I think are GAWJUS for Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re going for “sexy and sultry” or “innocent and flirty,” we’ve got you covered.
Check out our step by step Valentine’s Day Looks:
- The Sexy & Sultry Look
- The Natural & Innocent Look
- The Flirty Look.
The Sexy & Sultry Look

Because it’s nice to mix things up, try a smoky eye using a color instead of the residual black or brown. If you don’t like green shadow, try plum, berry, navy or whatever tickles your fancy.

The Natural/Innocent Look

This look requires little or no effort on the eyes, since you are using only one shade of cream shadow across the whole lid.
Products used for this look:
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Burnished. I love, love, love, love this shadow. Perfect if you have no time to do touch-ups and you just want to have a nice clean look.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Bronze Shimmer Ink. You do need to use an eyeliner brush for this and it takes a steady hand‚ but once you get the hang of it, the look is great. I am wearing a golden brown shade here so the look is much softer.

Products used for this look:
DiorShow Mascara in Jet Black. I used three coats (waterproof, of course).

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Brownie. What can I say - I just love the glow I get from the Shimmer Brick. Use sparingly and build until you get the amount of shimmer you want. The brick comes in several shades so you will be able to find one that is flattering for your skin tone. I would stick to something on the rose/pink side.

NARS Lip Gloss in Orgasm. I LOVE this shade….it looks super light in the tube but the shade really is flattering on just about everyone.

The Flirty Look

This look is close to the innocent one but with a darker eye achieved by using MAC Pigment. I know a lot of people are scared of using MAC Pigment but trust me, it is well worth it once you get the hang of it.
You can use MAC Pigment wet or dry and it it’s great for both highlighting and contouring. Here, I used the lighter pigment wet as an all-over veil on my lids and then the darker pigment (also wet) across the lash line. I finished by blending the lighter shade dry all over.

Products used for this look:
MAC Pigment in Cocomotion. A soft dirty gold applied all over. It looks a bit darker wet.

(color not shown)
MAC Pigment in Smoke Signal. Used across the lash line, this soft deep plum looks almost inky and violet when wet.
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Bronze Shimmer Ink.

DiorShow Mascara in Jet Black. I used one coat.

Laura Geller Blush-n-Brighten in Berry. A lovely, baked rosy-bronze.

NARS Lip Gloss NARS Lipgloss in Chantaco. I absolutely LOVE this shade…it’s a deep berry beige
