To Cut Or Not To Cut… That Is The Question!

I have to admit that when I was younger I dreamt of having hair like the ladies of “Charlie’s Angels”. I wanted long, feathered, bouncy and luxurious hair that was perfectly styled and never moved out of place! So when it was time to go to my great-aunt’s house for my hair appointments, I always wanted her to cut and style it just like the hair of these beautiful and fearless characters on TV. The funny thing was, every time I visited, my great-aunt would never cut my hair. She was a firm believer in the old wives’ tale of only cutting hair during a full moon! Her fear was that my hair would never grow back if it wasn’t cut during that particular time of good hair fortune. ??Fast forward to the present. I’m now a licensed cosmetologist and the facts are plain and simple: a full moon has no effect on hair growth! Research has proven that hair grows at an average rate of ½ inch per month. Might I also add that cutting hair has no effect on hair growth? It will not guarantee that hair will grow back faster, longer or thicker. But what it will do is keep your hair healthy by preventing split ends from traveling up the hair shaft, and help to maintain your hair’s shape and style. ??So, no need to be fooled by the moon–be fearless, be beautiful and love your hair!

  1. Could you share the sources of the research, please? Thanks.

  2. Hi Kitiya!
What is it with aunts being hairstylists? I used to go with my mother once a week for her hair styling sessions and would love to watch my aunt work her beehive madness on her customers! My favorite part was when she would braid my hair for me.
    What a cute posting!
